The workforce that supports the manufacturing giant of the PRC has drastically changed over the past 10 years. They are becoming more knowledgeable of the law, more likely to challenge their superiors in the event of wrongdoing, and are overall unwilling to work under the oppression and poor treatment that their prior counterparts accepted. Handshake Labour directly aids workers in their fight for protection from illegal operations and occurrences in their workplace. Workers are encouraged to call, text, or QQ message Handshake's representatives whenever they have a negative experience in the workplace.
Fusion offers the Handshake Employee Feedback System in addition to our internal services. We have solid evidence that the Feedback System effectively improves communication between workers and managers. The system helps resolve issues that arise between factory owners and their employees. It also leads to positive financial outcomes.
In one significant case, Fusion used the Handshake System to resolve a serious labor issue with one of its factory clients. A new employee of this factory named XiaoMing called Handshake after having a workplace accident. XiaoMing had been working for the factory for only three days and left work for his dinner break, after which he had to return to the factory for the overtime night shift. He was still in his probationary period and wanted to impress his co-workers and supervisor so he offered to buy them food during his short break.
XiaoMing hurriedly hopped on his electric scooter to pick up some street food dinner for himself and a few factory colleagues. However, he got into a car accident in which he fell into a gutter and broke his collarbone. XiaoMing immediately went to the hospital, where they told him he would have to pay 10,000 RMB for treatment. As a factory line worker, this was an exorbitant amount of money for XiaoMing (about five times his gross monthly pay). He feared that he would not be able to afford this payment. When XiaoMing attempted to contact his superiors at the factory, they refused to take his calls and even denied knowing who he was.
XiaoMing contacted Handshake, wondering if they would really be able to assist him. He spoke with a representative who informed him that an accident on the way to or from work is considered an industrial injury. The Handshake representative advised XiaoMing to apply for certification of industrial injury from the Labour and Security Administrative Department. XiaoMing, thankful and relieved, followed Handshake’s advice and hoped they could also get him in contact with the factory management.
When Handshake receives a complaint from a factory where Fusion has implemented Handshake, it turns to Fusion Consulting for Labour Law advice and human resource management consulting. Handshake brought this matter to the attention of Fusion’s managers, and Fusion and Handshake worked together to educate the factory management on their legal requirements and the plight of XiaoMing. Fusion recommended that the factory managers use their employee accidental injury insurance to pay for XiaoMing’s medical bills to avoid further issues.
Many major negative repercussions could have resulted had the factory owners continued to ignore XiaoMing’s problem. XiaoMing would not have been able to afford the surgery and would have needlessly lived with a potentially career-threatening injury. He could have easily filed a case against the factory for not providing the required medical care. As the factory would not have known about XiaoMing’s injury without the help of Handshake, it would not have had a signed an employee contract with him in place within the 30 day required period. This would have resulted in massive fines for the factory. Due to the assistance that Fusion and Handshake provided, the factory was able to make the required insurance company claims. XiaoMing received the funds he needed to pay for his treatment, and the factory avoided other potentially serious consequences.
In the end, the factory continued XiaoMing’s employment and had him sign a labor contract shortly after his release from the hospital. When the doctor allowed him, XiaoMing returned to work at the factory where at last report he is still employed as a machine mechanic.
